PrivadoVPN Free review: the streaming one

PrivadoVPN is the free plan we reach for when the goal is watching something. It unblocked more than any other free VPN we tried, and it never fully cuts you off when the data runs out. Here's the full picture.

What you actually get for free

PrivadoVPN's free plan gives you 10 GB of full-speed data each month, a choice of servers in ten countries, a kill switch, and an ad blocker. Where it differs from everyone else is what happens when the 10 GB is gone: instead of locking you out until next month, it switches you to unlimited data at a heavily reduced speed. You always have a working VPN, even if it's a slow one.

Streaming: the reason it's here

Most free VPNs fail the streaming test immediately. PrivadoVPN was the exception in our testing, getting into more streaming libraries than any other free plan on this list. It won't match a paid VPN for consistency, and streaming eats the 10 GB allowance fast (roughly three to four hours of HD video), but as free plans go it's the one that actually works for a movie night or catching your home services while traveling.

The limits, honestly

One device at a time, and slow mode is genuinely slow, fine for email and light pages but painful for anything heavier. The no-logs policy is clearly stated and the company is based in Switzerland, but there's no independent audit yet, so you're taking the claim on trust in a way you don't have to with Proton. The apps cover all major platforms and do the job without much polish.

Who should use it

Streamers and travelers on a budget, plus anyone who likes the safety net of never being fully cut off. If you don't care about streaming, Proton's unlimited full-speed data or Windscribe's feature set will serve you better day to day.

PrivadoVPN Free: quick questions

What happens when I use up the 10 GB?

You drop to unlimited data at a much lower speed until your monthly reset. Basic browsing keeps working; video and big downloads become impractical.

Does PrivadoVPN Free really work with streaming services?

It had the best free-tier streaming results in our testing, but no free VPN can promise access. Services block VPN servers constantly, so what works can change week to week.

Is there a data cap trick to watch out for?

No trick, but note the free plan is one device at a time, and full-speed data is capped at 10 GB per month. There's no way to top up without upgrading.

See how it compares in the full free VPN ranking, or check Windscribe if features matter more than streaming.
